ADJUSTMENT OF STATUS

So your fiancée is here and you got married.

Congratulations !

What happens next with the Immigration and Naturalization Service ?

What documents are required ?

The next step in the process is to file the "Adjustment Of Status"
with the Immigration and Naturalization Service to obtain her green card.

Adjustment Of Status is a process that permits certain people in the United States to apply for lawful permanent resident however not everyone qualifies for this procedure.

Any fiancée who was admitted to the United States on a K-1 visa and then marries the U.S. citizen who applied for the  K-1 visa can file for an adjustment of status .  Note: If  did not marry the U.S. citizen within the 90-day time limit, your new spouse must now file USCIS Form #  I-130, Petition for Alien Relative. Your unmarried, minor children are also eligible for adjustment of status.

The Adjustment Of Status process should be started with the USCIS shortly after you are married-Remember you must get married with 90-days or it will cost you more money in USCIS filing fees to do the adjustment.
